At the end of July. Real dog days of summer. The beauty of the NBA is that it is a league that usually has an 11-month news cycle. we have nba draftfree agency, nba summer league, Preseason, Regular Season, Trade Deadline, Playoff Race, Playoff and Final. There isn’t much going on for a short period of time between late July and early August.
it doesn’t stop Phoenix Sun Being in the limelight. They’re joined by Kevin Durant and every day we’re eagerly watching that sweepstakes to see if we’ve been chosen as the destination for the 12-time All-Star. As we wait patiently for that announcement, there are still some viable options available on the free-agent market that the Phoenix Suns could theoretically use to fill out their roster.
Everything is based on Durant’s decision, because if he ends up in Phoenix and the team’s depth goes downhill, you can expect to hear some of these following names signed on deals that would make the Sun Will allow a roster of 15 to field.
We have no idea what it would take to move to Brooklyn in an attempt to get Durant here. We all have an idea, but you don’t know until you know. Let’s look at these free agent names through the lens we can’t find Durant. Anyway this is the most viable option.
The Phoenix Suns are currently running 14 of their total 15 players. The roster status at the time of writing of this article is as follows:
The obvious requirement, especially considering the “three-by-five” philosophy of James Jones, is that backup is small forward for backup. But the resilience of newly acquired Josh Okogi and Damian Lee could make up for that shortfall in that position.
What is needed? Another guard? a feather? Who is available? Put on your SCUBA gear, because we’re diving in.
‘Go Get ‘Em Tier
There are not many players left that we should consider as “go get”. Given that Phoenix is subject to luxury tax, the $1.5M deal isn’t really worth that much after taxes. The 2022-23 NBA season will attract a luxury tax of $150.3M, and current sun salary There are currently a total of $167.2M, which is 6th highest in the NBA, The team’s project has a luxury tax bill of $39.9M.
Given that Sun currently has $16.9M on cap, based on the salary that they would pay an incoming free agent, they would pay $3.25 for every dollar above the cap. So if they get someone on a $1.75M deal, they’ll have to pay $5.69M for the max limit.
Therefore, the player you are bringing in has to justify that cap hit. I’m sure it’s a lot more complicated than that – you need a PhD to understand all the intricacies of the NBA cap and I don’t have that degree – but here are some players who might fit the bill if needed.
Surya Shakti appears to be good in the forward position. But are? Harel has physicality, size, and energy in the four, which are qualities the Sun can always use.
The challenge facing anyone trying to sign Harrell? he is Facing felony drug charges in the state of Kentucky after being stopped with three pounds of vacuum sealed marijuana. So there it is…
Once upon a time there was Dennis Schroeder allegedly offered With a four-year, $84M contract Los Angeles Lakers, He turned it down before the start of the 2021-22 season, opting to bet on himself and secure a bigger contract elsewhere.
That contract never came.
he signed with Boston Celtics For 1 year and $5.9M. In 49 games with Boston, Schröder scored 14.4 points and added 4.2 assists. He played 49 games with the Celtics, starting with 25. The team was 31-25 when they chose to trade him. Houston Rockets For Daniel Thies.
Boston will finish the regular season 16–6 and will continue until March. nba finals, Schröder would play 15 games for the Rockets, starting with 4, and would become an unrestricted free agent.
It is still unsigned.
He will be 29 when the NBA season begins and has 9 years of NBA experience. The former 17th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft has a history with Chris Paul; The two played together in Oklahoma City in 2019-20 which saw the best production of their careers.
Schroder would be a perfect fit with Sun if he came through, and in true Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson fashion, knew the role of Jabroni.
Because, come on, we love Ish!
‘I Won’t Mind’ Tear
There are a few names out there who might fit in with the Phoenix depending on their skill set and what they can bring to the bench. We’re not looking for the All-Stars required in free agency; Rather, we are looking for people who can fill when they get injured.
Here are some players I wouldn’t mind seeing the Suns add to the roster.
He bothers you. he annoys me. He could have angered the opposition for both of us. And we will enjoy it.
Campazzo was one of 2021’s annoyances nba playoff run for the sun, and even the phoenix infamously swayed Denver NuggetsFacundo Campazzo stirred up sentiments that would be reflected by New Orleans Pelicans‘ Jose Alvardo a season later.
The 5’10” Campazzo, who averaged 5.6 points and 3.5 assists in 130 games with Denver over two seasons, may be short. But they have a championship-level heart, winning the Spanish league championship three times (2015, 2018, 2019), and the Argentine league championship four times (2010, 2011, 2012, 2014), twice (2015 and 2018).
Sons often don’t need him, but when Monty Williams called for him, he gets maximum effort.
I’m just as surprised as you I’d consider it, but if you need someone to come off the bench and provide an aggressive spark—something we shouldn’t expect from Josh Okogi—why not into a hired gun? Bring who knows how to do just that?
Melo has been doing this for the past few seasons, going from team to team as he seeks his first professional championship. The 10-time All-Star has played for six teams, most recently logging minutes in LA. He played 26 minutes a night with the Lakers, scoring 13.3 points in 69 games (3 starts).
The old man can still score.
He will be 38 next season and if the contract is right, why not? Oh, because of the whole “chemistry”? Yes, I hear you there. Melo is a big personality who demands attention and ball. But if his banana boat mate Chris Paul can set reasonable expectations for his role, someone who can contribute aggressively never hurts.
‘Please don’t tear’
Some are left out who carry recognizable names with them – a la Carmelo Anthony – but have no place on the Phoenix Suns roster.
Let alone as Dwight Howard, Phoenix needs no more depth in Five. Similar to Carmelo Anthony, he played with the Lakers last season, hoping that LeBron James’ greatness would equal another ring (he won one with the Lakers in 2020). Howard averaged 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds at age 36.
However, from a locker room standpoint, Howard can be troublesome. Last season he was joined by Anthony Davis on the bench, an unfortunate incident as the Lakers had personnel issues and performed poorly all season.
Lamarcus Aldridge, Hassan Whiteside, Blake Griffin, and/or Andre Iguodala
There are no viable arguments for bringing in either of these players. If it was 2015, yeah, get them. But if you’re looking for value-for-pay, you won’t find it with any of these players.
Alfrid Peyton, Greg Monroe, Markiff Morris, Josh Jackson, and/or Eric Bledsoe
We have already seen these players in purple and orange. There is no need to see them again.
James Jones has a lot to focus on. Durant continues to dictate any moves the Sweepstakes takes going forward. If that deal fails, though, I’m sure there are free agents he’s going to stop monitoring and evaluate whether they can contribute to this team.
