Like a large majority of French people (87%), you probably do your shopping in a supermarket or hypermarket. Attractive prices, variety of products, promotions and accessibility : Large and mid-sized stores are seeing a return in favor of inflation after being somewhat shunned during successive lockdowns. Which brand is doing it better? ? An OpinionWay survey for Bonial questioned, by self-administered questionnaire, 5 004 regular food buyers about their preferences.
Lidl in the lead in prices…
Criteria #1 for 94% of respondents in this context of inflation, the German discount store obtains the best mark (7.8/10) in terms of the prices charged. 33% of those surveyed consider their prices very attractive and 56% as quite attractive.
Leclerc is just behind with a score of 7.6/10. Two competing discount Lidl brands remain : Aldi (7.4/10) and Netto (7/10). Carrefour closes this top 5 with a score of 6.9/10.
But Lidl, with its territorial network, also comes out first in another size criterion with a score of 7.7/10 : Ease of access to the store. It is followed by two supermarket brands with a strong presence throughout the territory, including small and medium-sized towns. : Intermarché and Leclerc both score 7.5/10. Aldi also does very well again with an average of 7.3/10, as does Picard, which closes this top 5.
… Leclerc for promotions
The French food giant finally manages to take first place ahead of the German discounter in its promotions : considered better at Leclerc (7.5/10) than at Lidl (7.2/10). It is followed by Carrefour (7.1/10), Auchan hypermarkets (6.9/10) and Intermarché (also 6.9/10).
Leclerc, on the other hand, is far ahead of Lidl in terms of product offerings. The French is first (7.9/10) while the German is only eleventh with 7.1/10. The hypermarkets Carrefour (7.7/10) and Auchan (7.6/10) respectively occupy second and third place on the podium. They are followed by Grand Frais and Picard, both with a score of 7.3/10.
In the general classification, Leclerc wins by being cited by 24.4% of respondents like their favorite brand. Carrefour gets second place with 17.3% of responses and Lidl finishes third with 11.4%
