Under the blow of a suspended total closed session, OM paid in cash for the serious incidents at the Vélodrome stadium, on September 13 against Frankfurt in the Champions League (0-1). In fact, the UEFA Disciplinary Committee lifted this pardon on Friday night, which means that the Marseilles’ next match in C1, on October 4 at the Vélodrome, against Sporting de Portugal, will take place in a stadium empty.
And that’s not all, as OM also received a partial closed-door session (closing of the North corner) for another match (OM-Tottenham, scheduled for November 1). OM is accused of a “use of smoke bombs”since “throw objects”a “use of lasers”since “crowd movements” and a “blockade of public passages” (Frankfurt is also penalized and must reimburse OM for their supporters’ damage.)
The suspended closed-door session had been imposed on OM after the excesses that had punctuated their return leg of the Europa League Conference semifinals against Feyenoord, on May 5 at the Stade Vélodrome. For “use of fireworks” Y “dissemination of provocative and hateful messages” (a typhus “UEFA Mafia” had been deployed in the South curve), the European body had sanctioned the Olympic club “of a game behind closed doors suspended, which will last two years”. Along with a fine of 40,000 euros.
Nice behind closed doors against Slovacko
For its part, Nice also receives a session behind closed doors (October 13 for the reception of Slovacko) after the serious disturbances during the reception of Cologne, on September 8 in C4. UEFA had opened a disciplinary file against Nice (and against Cologne, also sanctioned, with a fine of 100,000 euros and a travel ban for their supporters for their next two European matches).
UEFA pointed out the flaws in Nice in the organization of the match that degenerated into serious fights caused by the Germans. The Disciplinary Committee of the European organization also prohibits Nice from selling tickets to its followers for the next European trip and forces it to display a banner in its enclosure where it will be indicated “No to racism”.
