Unsurprisingly, Île-de-France is the region least affected by work accident. In any case, this is what emerges from a new to study the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (DREES) on the state of health of the population in France, since activity is more tertiary in the Paris region than in the rest of France. Thus, in 2019, there were only 21.5 occupational accidents per 1,000 employees in the Ile-de-France region compared to… 41.5 per 1,000 in Brittany, where there are more manual workers. That’s almost double!
At the national level, the DREE registered 656,000 occupational accidents recognized as such in 2019. That is 33.5 per 1,000 workers. But in mainland France, except Île-de-France, all regions report more accidents at work. 39.2 per 1,000 employees in Aquitaine, 38.3 in Auvergne, 37.2 in Normandy or 34.3 in Midi-Pyrénées. Even more surprising, the volume of occupational accidents is much lower in the overseas territories: 7.8 per 1,000 employees in Guyana, 18.6 in Guadeloupe and Martinique, 29.2 in Réunion.
As for the number ofpermanent disabilities pronounced after an accident at work, amounted to 34,000 during the year 2019. After a continuous decrease since 2013, the severity of accidents, estimated by the proportion of accidents that give rise to permanent disability, remained stable between 2017 and 2019.
